How did we get started?
Childhood
From a young age, the kitchen was where everything began. My mom had me right by her side, teaching me how to bake, cook, and appreciate the love that goes into preparing a meal. My mom would call me downstairs to come help in the kitchen, and sometimes I would go willing and other times, I was just being a teenager - if you know, you know lol.
She would have me grease and flour pans to prep them for cake or cookie batter. I would make up her cake batter sometimes or help her make the frosting to go on her cakes. Some weekends, my cousins would come by, and we would make and eat cookies all day. So, I grew up seeing my mom take orders, develop a catering business and take her time with cooking and serving up plates and pans of unforgettable flavorful food.
Looking back now, those early moments weren’t just about learning recipes—they were lessons in time, patience, care, and the joy of serving others.

The kitchen became a place of learning, love, and purpose. Through those experiences, I learned that food is more than nourishment—it’s a way to care for people and bring them together. What started as a childhood passion has grown into Key’s Twisted Flava's, where that same foundation of love, intention, and heart is poured into every dish we serve today.
“From MAMA'S Kitchen to Key’s KITCHEN”
As I got older, the baton was passed to me. What began as watching and learning slowly turned into responsibility. I found myself cooking weeknight dinners, preparing Sunday meals, and making “just because” dinners—those meals made simply to bring everyone together. I would find ways to step outside the box and be different when cooking because I never wanted to eat the same traditional meals over and over again. I LOVE tradition, but I had to find a way to put a spin on it. This is where creativity came in.

Later, my SONshine and I moved into our own home, and I discovered so much joy in keeping our kitchen stocked and cooking meals just for us. Every time I cooked, he was right there—taste testing, setting the table, and helping make our meals feel special. Around this time, TikTok was taking off, and I started sharing our kitchen moments with the world, posting videos of our meals on TikTok and Facebook. I truly just enjoyed cooking for me and my son.

Then, when I started dating my now-husband, one Sunday I was trying to figure out what to make for our football dinner. I was scrolling through social media for inspiration when a video of a buffalo eggroll caught my eye. It was something different—something none of us had ever tried before. I found a recipe, bought the ingredients, and cooked them—and my family LOVED them. My daughter, in particular, was obsessed! She loved those buffalo eggrolls so much that I found myself making them practically every weekend.

When my husband and I got married, my family grew, and with it, my love for cooking grew even more. I found myself experimenting in the kitchen—trying new recipes, learning everyone’s taste preferences, and finding the perfect balance for our meals. One Fourth of July, we hosted at our house and I served a spread of appetizers. And guess what stole the show? The buffalo eggrolls. Someone even said, “If you sell these, I’ll buy them from you.” At the time, I didn’t think anything of it—I wasn’t cooking for money, I was just cooking to serve others with love. But after the event, word spread, and soon someone asked if they could place an order. I agreed, and that was the start of something unexpected.

As time went on, one of my good sisters started sending me videos of different kinds of eggrolls, which sparked my creativity all over again. That’s when God began showing me that I love putting my own twist on things. From that moment, I realized I make eggrolls—and even traditional comfort food—with a little twist, adding flavor, creativity, and love into every bite. And this is where Key’s Twisted Flava’s was born.
